Industrial engineering (IE):

Industrial engineering (IE)  means that deals with the optimization of processes, systems, and organizations. In the garments industry, IE improves efficiency, productivity, and quality and reduces wastage and cost.

Some of the essential  tasks of the  IE professionals that perform in the garments industry :

  1. Line balancing: Optimizing the number of workers and machines on a production line to ensure that each worker is always busy and that the line is running as efficiently as possible.
  1. Work measurement: Developing standard times for tasks, which can be used to set production targets and to identify areas where productivity can be improved.
  1. Inventory control: Managing the flow of materials through the production process to ensure enough inventory to meet demand without too much excess inventory.
  1. Quality control: Developing and implementing procedures to ensure that garments meet quality standards.
  1. Ergonomics: Designing workstations and processes to minimize the risk of injuries to workers.

IE professionals can play a vital role in the success of garment manufacturers. By improving efficiency, productivity, and quality, IE can help manufacturers to reduce costs, increase profits, and improve customer satisfaction.
